Historic Preservation
Shorewood’s inherited built environment, most of which was constructed in the early 20th century, illustrates the story of Shorewood’s development.
It is notable that the 2011 Architectural Survey of Shorewood, WI concluded that as many as eight neighborhoods could qualify for consideration for historic district designation because of the large number of high-quality well-designed homes, duplexes and apartment buildings were concentrated on various blocks throughout the village.
Preserving our story is a Shorewood Historical Society priority. We are working with Village trustees and staff and with residents to develop historic preservation policies appropriate for our community.
