September 3, 2025 at 10 a.m.  “Atwater Park and the Northern ‘Gold Coast’”

Step back 125 years to Shorewood’s beginnings and trace the transformation from open farmland to a prestigious residential neighborhood defined by early 20th-century architectural elegance. We’ll explore the area once accessed via the Whitefish Bay Toll Road, where Milwaukee’s most influential architects helped shape the neighborhoods now known as the Northern Gold Coast.

Shorewood is a Walkable Community

Learn more about Shorewood history while walking on your own. Pay attention to the variety of architectural styles and watch for “Birthday Markers” near the sidewalk that will tell you when a home was built.

A book of self-guided walking tours is also available at the Shorewood Historical Society. Or, click on the link below to find out more.
